Geography
The Philippines or the Republic of the Philippines is an archipelago composed of about 7.641 islands.
The capital is Manila and the most populated city is Quezon.
The Philippines is categorized with 3 main geographical divisions from north to south: Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
The longest river is the Cayagar river in Luzon, the largest lake is Laguna de Bay and the highest mountain is Mount Apo with 2.954 meters.
The Philippines deepest depht is “The Galatea depht” the third deepest depht in the world.
Climate
The Philippines is situated near the equator so it’s very hot. Strong typhoons pass on it destroying everything they meet.
There are often strong earthquakes, too and that’s because it’s near The Ring of Fire.
It has 3 seasons:tag-lamig (Winter) with 22° to 30°,
tag-ulan (Rainy season) with 30° to 35° and tag-init (Summer) with 35° to 40°.
History
Ferdinand Magelland was the one who discoverd the Philippines and in the 1521 he marked the beginning of the Hispanic colonization.
The explorer Ruy Lòpez de Villalobos named the archipelago Las islas Filipinas in honor of the King Philip ll of Spain.
And with the arrival of Miguel Lòpez de Legazpi in the 1526 the Philippines was officialy part of the Spanish empire for more then 300 years.
In the 19th and 20th century began the Philippine Revolution and it was followed by the Philippine-American War, where the Americans took soveireingty of the islands.
In the end of the World War ll the Americans lost the islands and the Philippines became an indipendent nation.
Language
Filipino and English are the original languages of the Philippines and the co-languages are Arabic and Spanish.
In the Philippines there are 19 languages.
Filipino dish
A filipino dish has always rice.
Some popular filipino dishes are :
lechòn,sinigang,kare-kare,adobo,pansit,tapa,crispy pata,lumpia and halo-halo.
One of my favourites is halo-halo.
Halo-halo is a popular dessert with beans, jelly, fruit mixed with shaved ice and evaporated milk.
But there are some disgusting filipino food like balut or isaw.
Balut is a developing bird embryo that is boiled and eaten from the shell.
Isaw is a chicken intestine.
